The only thing that could possibly compare and stand up to LSS, and came out before it, was This Is Spinal Tap.

I'm not sure I disagreed with you.
Just pointing out that they were contemporaries and worked close together. Two of the greatest sitcoms of all time being produced literally side by side on the same lot.
The Comedians In Cars clips is worth watching. Ironically they talk about Shandling dying. Shandling says he wants a boxing referee counting him out when he goes.
Brilliant funny man.

'Seinfeld and Larry Sanders were made at the same time.'

That's why I pointed out that 'Seinfeld' was influenced by Shandling's much earlier, 'It's Garry Shandling's Show'.

Very sad news. Echoing the love for the Larry Sanders show - one of the classiest comedies of all time. No flipping...

Seinfeld and Larry Sanders were made at the same time.
On that clip I posted below (from Seinfelds Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee) Seinfeld and Shandling talk about their past and visit the Comedy Store. And the studio where they were making their shows on the lots opposite each other.

Not that there's any shame in that.

or to quote a famous Seinfeld phrase when talking about homos, "not that there's anything wrong with that"

Re: Blimey, RIP Gary Shandling
'Seinfeld' is clearly a derivation of 'It's Garry Shandling's Show'.

Not that there's any shame in that.

Bollocks! In the world of TV comedy, he is as big and important as the likes of Bowie in music. Yet another huge loss.

I'm on the second to last series of The Larry Sanders Show in the box set I bought not so long ago. I'm not sure there is a better american tv comedy. It is the daddy of modern tv comedy. Cuts to the bone.

No more flipping. :-(

One of the first really good HBO shows, painfully hilarious.

The interview Gervais did with him is the same. Hard to watch unless you hate Gervais.

Yeah, echo the Larry Sanders love - one of the best three sitcoms of all time. Always kept an eye on Shandling's IMDb page hoping he would announce something new that had the potential to rival that but he never did.

Is it fair to say, his show was the precursor to The Office?

HEY NOW!
That's a choker. His Larry Sanders show was brilliant. Best thing of it's time by a mile. Hank and the Rip Torn character were superb.
